Come spend a long weekend with Detroit Symphony piccoloist Jeffery Zook in the Mile High City and explore your artistry on the instrument which soars miles above the others!  Each day features a Practice Session and a Performance Session.  All participants will play in the Practice Sessions each morning and everyone will have a chance to perform solo or orchestral repertoire for Mr. Zook in the afternoon Performance Sessions.

Saturday night will feature Mr. Zook along with Denver flutists Michael Williams and Cathy Peterson in concert.  Free to participants or tickets at the door for general public.

Morning –  Complete Piccoloist Practice Sessions

Morning sessions will include both flute and piccolo tone and technique exercises.  This is not just a piccolo class – this is a piccolo class for flutists! Making the switch between flute and piccolo effectively comes from being prepared on how to approach the two instruments together.
Afternoon – Complete Piccoloist Performing Sessions
Performers will sign-up with selected repertoire from the piccolo and flute literature.  Solo and orchestral excerpts will be included in these Art of Performing sessions, with an emphasis on preparing for a professional piccolo audition.

Daily Schedule (Friday – Sunday):

9:30 am – 11:30 am   Complete Piccoloist Practice Session
11:30 am – 1:00 pm   Lunch and free time
1:00 pm – 4:00 pm     Complete Piccoloist Performing Session

Advance high school, college or professional level players are welcome.
Morning Practice Class repertoire includes The Mazzanti Method and Learning the Piccolo by Clement Barone
Afternoon Performance Class repertoire includes Orchestral Excerpts for Piccolo by Jack Wellbaum
All three books are available by ordering at:  FLUTE SPECIALISTS

I love that Jeff started every class with basics, and worked from there. He is a stellar teacher!… I never knew how to practice piccolo until this class. I learned different techniques that I’m able to practice daily now… The class was very enjoyable and hands on, even for the auditors… Mr. Zook is super energetic and kind!
2019 Participants

Jeffery Zook is in his 28th season as piccoloist of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.  He shares the traditions of piccolo playing that he learned from Patricia Morris (BBC Philharmonic) and Clement Barone (his predecessor – Detroit Symphony) in this class for flutists who have the desire to improve their piccolo skills.
